The Laboratory of Geodesy was organized in 1957, two years after the establishment of the Chair of Geodesy in the School of Technology and the Department of Civil Engineering in the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. The staff of the Laboratory taught related courses to the Department of Civil Engineering (teaching until today), the Department of Rural and Surveying Engineering (until 1976) and the Department of Architecture (until 1984).

Directors of the Laboratory of Geodesy were the Professors: Georgios Nikolitsas (1957-1960), Alexandros Sfikas (1961-1964), Lysimahos Mavridis (1964-1973), Anastasios Papadimitriou (1973), Konstantinos Kladas (1973-1976), Dimitrios Vlahos (1976-1978) and Anthimos Badellas (1978-2000). Today, Prof. Paraskevas Savvaidis is the Director of the Laboratory of Geodesy.

In the University Campus the Laboratory of Geodesy was at first housed in the building of the School of Agriculture. In 1961 it was moved to the second floor of the central building of the School of Technology. In 1979 it was relocated to the second floor of the newly built building of the Department of Rural and Surveying Engineering.
